eco-conscious floral design + locally handmade goods
about the shop
Starting as an online shop, Pictus Goods has expanded into a brick + mortar flower and gift boutique located in the Junction Triangle, in Toronto.
We believe that conscious consumerism should apply when purchasing flowers, which is why we bring an eco-conscious approach to floral design! We do not use floral foam in our arrangements and avoid the use of single-use plastics as best we can. In terms of our design style, our arrangements are unstructured, bloom heavy and are designed to replicate flowers growing in a garden. With a mixture of local and imported blooms, each of our arrangements are thoughtfully composed!
The shop is full of lovely gifts that are all handmade in Canada by female and female identifying makers. Everything we carry in the shop is truly unique! In addition to our handmade gifts, we have a large selection of unique vintage vessels that were specially selected by the owner.
Whether you come in and visit the shop directly or purchase flowers or gifts online, when you shop at Pictus, you can feel good about supporting a small and female run business.
eco - conscious floral design
We are so beyond proud to be an eco-friendly flower shop! The floral industry is notorious for mass amounts of waste and for using floral-foam and single use plastics in their designs.
Many retail shops use floral foam in their arrangements for designing or to package their arrangements for delivery. Floral foam never biodegrades and is extremely toxic! We have made the ethical choice to be a floral foam-free shop.
We make a strong effort to avoid using single use plastics in our arrangements by using chicken wire instead of tape (as much as possibly we can) and with our packaging by not using plastic card picks and using eco-friendly water bags.
We’re committed to reducing our waste levels in an effort to be as environmentally conscious as we can. We only source vessels that are either handmade in Canada or are vintage. We don’t offer any vessels that are imported from China. This means less fossil fuels, less packaging/ waste and nothing is mass produced in a factory.
\We try to source local blooms as much as possible. We just love supporting our local growers during the warmer months!
locally handmade goods
We offer a large selection of handmade and one of a kind gifts. Everything in the shop is handmade in Canada by female + female identifying makers. We believe in the importance of supporting independent makers and we value the energy and creativity put into each and every item that we carry in our shop.
Our products include jewelry, ceramics, home décor items, textiles, all natural skin and body care, paper goods, candles and many other lovely gifts.
about the owner
Hi there, I’m Jaz!
I’m an avid supporter of all things creative and local and I pride myself in supporting small and female run businesses. I absolutely love curating specialty goods and love being able to promote Canadian female + female identifying makers. Starting Pictus Goods has been one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made and it has been the perfect way for me to combine my business ambitions, passions and creativity.
I’ve always had an admiration for floral design and growing up I was constantly surrounded by flowers. My Nonna had a huuuuge and beautiful garden which is where I spent most of my summer days growing up. After completing the first year of a Fashion Merchandising program, I realized that I specifically loved the creative, hands on design aspect of the program, but was not attached to the idea of pursuing a career in the fashion industry. Then one day, it occurred to me that I could create a life for myself that involved flowers! I enrolled in courses at the Toronto Botanical Gardens and I started making weekly trips to the local flower markets and bringing home (way too many) flowers!
Since then, I have worked at some of Toronto’s best flower shops where I have been able to expand my skills and knowledge in the flower industry and have worked alongside many extremely talented florists.
Outside of the shop, you can find me cuddling with my two adorable cats (Watson + Frances), practicing hot yoga, cooking up delicious meals, riding my bike, thrift shopping and indulging in a flat white at a local coffee shop or enjoying a refreshing glass of wine.
